GigSky One Review: The eSIM Subscription for People Who Keep Moving

There is a certain kind of traveller who should not have to buy a fresh data plan every time a plane lands. You might spend two weeks in Spain, fly to a client meeting in the US, take a long weekend in Bangkok, then land in another airport before the month ends. For that person, opening five eSIM apps and doing tiny bits of data maths gets old fast.

GigSky One is GigSky’s answer: one eSIM, a recurring payment, and coverage across more than 120 countries. It is aimed at frequent travellers, digital nomads and people who work while moving. The simple pitch is good. The detail matters more.

The short answer: GigSky One can be a sensible choice if you travel internationally most months, need a predictable global data allowance and are happy with data-only service. It is less attractive for one holiday, cruise-only use, or anyone who expects full-speed, bottomless data all day. GigSky’s own page says the unlimited option slows after 2.5GB per day, with high-speed data returning daily. That is not a trick; it is the bit to understand before you subscribe.

What GigSky One actually is

GigSky One is a global eSIM subscription, not a bundle of local phone plans. You download a GigSky eSIM to an unlocked, compatible phone and select a recurring One plan. GigSky says the service works in 120+ countries and automatically connects to an available local partner network.

The difference from buying a standard travel eSIM is the rhythm. A normal trip plan is a purchase for a defined destination and validity period. GigSky One is built around a billing cycle. That means less buying before every trip, but it also means you are paying in months when you may not travel enough to use it.

The useful mental model is this: GigSky One is closer to a travel-data membership than a holiday eSIM. It is for someone whose passport gets more exercise than their local SIM.

It is not a replacement for every part of your home SIM

GigSky One is data-only. GigSky states that standard SMS and phone calls are not supported. You can still communicate perfectly well through apps, but your usual mobile number remains with your normal SIM or eSIM. Keep that line active only if you need bank codes or incoming calls, and check your home provider’s roaming charges before doing so.

That dual-SIM setup is usually the cleanest travel arrangement:

1. Keep your home line on for calls and SMS if required.
2. Set GigSky One as the line for mobile data.
3. Turn data roaming on for the GigSky line only, because travel eSIMs often need it to join their partner network.

Fixed data versus “unlimited” data: the important bit

The word unlimited looks lovely on an airport gate. It can also hide a speed rule that changes how useful the plan feels.

GigSky’s One page says you choose a high-speed monthly allowance, and that unlimited data continues at speeds of up to 1 Mbps after the high-speed data is used. On the same page, GigSky says its unlimited plans slow after 2.5GB per day, with high-speed data resuming daily. Read the plan’s current terms at checkout, because the exact presentation of the tiers can change.

In plain English: you should not treat the unlimited option as permission to stream 4K video, back up a laptop and hotspot a family all afternoon without consequence. Once slowed, up to 1 Mbps can still be workable for messages, maps, email, basic browsing and a boarding pass. It is far less comfortable for HD video calls, big uploads, cloud syncs or a laptop full of background updates.

The 50GB, 75GB and 100GB choices

GigSky lists 50GB, 75GB and 100GB plans per month for GigSky One. The right option depends on your real habit, not the amount that feels safely huge.

50GB is likely enough if: you use maps, social media, browsing, ride-hailing, work chat, email, a few video calls and occasional tethering. It suits a traveller who works from Wi-Fi most evenings.

75GB makes sense if: you are taking regular calls away from Wi-Fi, uploading photos or short videos, using a laptop hotspot several days a week, or moving between countries where hotel Wi-Fi is questionable.

100GB is for the heavier traveller: a creator sending files, a consultant who works from trains and cafés, or a couple sharing one phone’s hotspot. It is still sensible to update apps, download shows and back up photos over trusted Wi-Fi where possible.

Is GigSky One fast enough for remote work?

Usually, yes—while you are inside the high-speed allowance and connected to a decent local network. GigSky says the service is primarily 5G, though some places may be 4G or 3G. That is an honest reminder that the city, building, local network and your phone all matter.

For remote work, the real question is not “does it say 5G?” It is “what happens after I have used data today?” A 30-minute HD call, cloud sync and a laptop update can use more data than expected. If your income depends on a live presentation, do not rely on a slowed connection as your only backup.

Here is the traveller-geek approach:

• Use GigSky One for moving days, café work, maps and reliable backup.
• Keep important downloads and large uploads for Wi-Fi.
• Disable automatic photo backup and operating-system updates on mobile data.
• Test a video call before a client meeting, especially in a new country.
• Carry a second connection plan if the meeting is truly high stakes.

GigSky says hotspot use is included with One, so connecting a laptop or tablet is part of the intended use. Still, hotspotting makes your phone the weak link: battery drains faster, heat rises, and one careless laptop sync can chew through data. Pack a small power bank. It is a boring travel item until it saves your Monday morning.

Countries and coverage: broad is not the same as universal

GigSky advertises GigSky One in 120+ countries. That is enough to cover a lot of common business and leisure routes across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and more. But do not buy based on the number alone.

Before you subscribe, check all places on your route, including a stopover or an island after the main city. Coverage can differ by product, and a country shown on the wider GigSky catalogue is not automatically proof that it is included in the One subscription.

Also remember that eSIM coverage does not remove real-world network gaps. A mountain road, rural island, underground station or ship at sea is a different problem from whether a country is listed. Monthly, quarterly and annual: which renewal period makes sense?

GigSky says One can renew monthly, quarterly or annually, and it also says you can cancel any time without cancellation fees or penalties. That flexibility is valuable, but the safest starting move is still the simple one: begin monthly.

Choose monthly if your travel pattern is changing, you are trying the service for the first time, or you only expect a few busy months.

Consider quarterly if you already know you will be travelling for a full season and the live checkout shows a worthwhile saving.

Consider annual only if international travel is normal for your job or life and you have checked the cancellation, renewal and country terms carefully. A lower monthly-equivalent price is not a bargain if your travel slows down after two months.

The key is to set a calendar reminder several days before the renewal date. Auto-renew is convenient when you are moving; it is annoying when you are home for six weeks and forgot it existed.

Can you cancel GigSky One easily?

GigSky’s current product page says there is no commitment and you can cancel at any time, with no fees or penalties. That is the headline. The practical step is to cancel inside your account before the next renewal if you do not want another billing period.

Do not confuse cancelling a subscription with deleting an eSIM profile. You generally do not need to erase the eSIM just because a trip ends. GigSky’s support material warns against deleting an eSIM without speaking to support, and says a GigSky eSIM can work with plans in future destinations. Keep the profile labelled clearly as “GigSky” and simply turn it off when you do not need it.

If you accidentally delete it, GigSky’s support centre says you can request a replacement in the app from the active plan tile, subject to its replacement process and limits. That is useful, but not a reason to treat the QR code like a spare key.

GigSky One versus a one-off GigSky eSIM plan

If your itinerary is London–Paris–Rome this week and home next month, a Europe regional plan may be simpler. If your next three months are Singapore, Dubai, Frankfurt and New York, One becomes more compelling.

Skip it if your work needs guaranteed high-speed service beyond the daily threshold. You might still use One as a backup, but not as the sole connection for time-critical uploads or long live broadcasts.
